    Z-lite SOL/neo air combo

    Hi there,

I am going winter hanging this weekend, (expecting Nights below 0) and have recently player with the idea to use a thermarest z-light SOL under my neo air all season pad. I figure the z-light design Will trap a lot of air and keep me Nice and Warm during the Night.
Has anybody experiences with this combo?

    Not Exactly

    Hi,
I've not used that exact combination. In the days that I used to sleep in a tent, I always put a z-lite sol under my Big Agnes Insulated Air Core or my Thermarest Pro-lite plus. I have never been cold on the mat side. I've used this arrangement in the teens (F) and the mat has always been warm. I'm not sure how that would translate to a hammock, but stacking the pads does help. In the hammock, I would imagine it will be a challenge to keep them together. You may need some straps.

I would say you should be warm with that combo. You may want to let a little air out of pad that will help you keep from sliding around so much. Also depends on if you are a cold or warm sleeper.

The z-lite sol is very expensive for a piece of foam. Plus, it has ridges which aren't useful in the hammock - they are designed for comfort on the ground. Ridges make packing much more bulky. I would choose a smooth evazote ccf foam pad, they cost about $10 and roll up tight.
