What size underquilt if I am bringing a pad along as well?

I've been hashing this out for a few days now and figured you guys could help me along.....

I have a full length Thermarest pad. It's inflatable but low R Value. I think it's a trail pad or something like that. Their cheapest one to my knowledge. I use it for a camp chair with my thermarest chair that it goes into.

I also sleep on it. Which is comfortable for me, but I find myself having to adjust it during the night sometimes and also find that I'm too hot to sleep on it on warmer nights until the temp. drops during the night.

I was thinking about getting an underquilt or making one from a poncho liner. I'd probably just buy one from one of the vendors on this site. Possibly the Jarbridge or New River from Arrowhead.

If I am still going to bring along the pad for the camp chair should I just get the smaller underquilt? Or is it more comfy with the full length?

If I leave the pad behind then what do you all use for camp chairs?

    Thanks!

Some people are comfortable with 3/4 length UQ and a foot pad. Others prefer a full length UQ. I like 3/4 length UQ Spring-Fall + foot pad (also used as sit pad) but prefer full length UQ in the winter months.

There is a Jarbridge up for grabs in the For Sale forum.

If you're getting a good underquilt then I would consider ditching the thermarest all together. If the point of it is to use as a chair then I would consider some other options for a chair in place of the Thermarest. You likely would not want both the pad and quilt, even if said quilt was a partial length....then you just need a small pad for your lower legs and feet.

I take a Monarch chair and use my foot pad in the chair to give it a little insulation and then in the hammock at night.

I prefer a full ! You can use reflectives in your camp chair instead of your thermarest ! I have taken a shine to a Helinox chair!

I'm thinking I can get the Jarbridge and just about have a full for me. I'm only 5 foot 7. I'll have to try out some chairs next time I'm at Diamond Brand.

I'm about the same height and the Jarbidge is neck to just above ankles on me when stretched out.

The trip I stepped up to an UQ, I took the pad with me to the woods, but left it in the trunk at the trailhead. I was coming back for resupply in a couple days and could have taken it with me, if needed. I never did.

I found that using my jacket under my calves and feet was, for me, warmer, more comfortable, and certainly a bit lighter and much less bulky. As a hedge, I do carry a small Reflectix sit pad, for the occasional cold spot, or to slip into my TQ's foot box.

Solo, I use my hammock for a chair. Group hangs, it's the Alite Monarch. Keeps your butt off the ground and can be a hoot watching people try to get in and out of it. I still rock over backwards myself on nearly every outing at some point or the other. I can use the Reflectix sit pad with it as well, and would probably rather pack the chair instead of the pad, and just eat the weight penalty vs the pad bulk.
