    Stealthiest Colours

I don't want to go for camo patterns since I think it would raise more suspicion (if seen) than single-toned colours.

In general, would it be better to match the colours of your hammock components, or not. Would grey, green, or olive brown be best? My gut says brown because of winter, and the corresponding foliage deficiency, but am I not giving grey enough credit?

There's quite a few threads about this. Most of my gear is black, but I like black, and it just accidentally happened. I have some greens and Browns. I think as long as you stick with the colors you've mentioned, you'll be fine. Really though, it comes down to what color your trees and foliage are.

My tarp is Olive Brown and it blends in well even in summer.

I was set up maybe 10' from the water edge in Algonquin last September and from the canoe no one would have known I was there without a very intense look to find it.

Look at the color of the wild animals in your area. Probably grey or brown.

You're going about it backwards. Don't try to match your surroundings...make your surroundings match your setup...

My gear (hammock, quilts, tarp, UQP) is all dark olive or brown. They all match together very nicely and disappear nicely amongst the trees and underbrush.

Unlike many others I've read about here in the forums, I use lash-it instead of zing-it (or some other colored cord) for all my lines (except the Amsteel for the hammock, of course) so I can go very stealth when needed. I don't generally have a problem tripping over the lines, but I do use a splice of black shock cord on the tarp guy lines so when I hit them, they give some.

Yeah my olive brown tarp and hammock really blend in. Even in the snow it can get lost in the evergreens at a distance!

And I like that lash-it idea. Dang it!! I was going to buy the gray for that reason but ended up with yellow. It's always on my tarp, so it's not like I need the yellow for visibility or to prevent me from losing it. Guy lines would be another thing for tripping, but I use reflective cordage for that.
