    Gathered-End Hammock Question

Hello I am about to make my first hammock i have my dimensions and suspension for the hammock picked out. But I do not know how to attach the suspension to the hammock. Could someone please outline the pros and cons of a channel-sewn hammock and a whipped hammock? Also how to hang suspension with a structural ridge line for each. I was planning on using the method for the whipped hammock shown in cryptic cricket's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6Mt1...SOaYlTPBcfY_rQ . I am planning using an ACR and whoopie sling with marlin spike suspension. my main concern is the carabiners under the whipping. Is that the best way to attach or is there a lighter way without them. Thank-you for your time.

It doesn't have to be a one or the other choice. Make the hammock with an end channel. This gives you the choice to larks head the whoopie slings through the channel, or gather and whip the end and larks head the whoopie slings just inside of the whipping. Try it both ways and see if you can tell a difference.

I certainly wouldn't be hanging from a stopper knot through the whipping as done in the video.

Get the hammock made, pick the way you want to leave the suspension and then ask how to connect the structural ridgeline.

Xtrekker has a pretty cool video about adding suspension and I think I'm gonna start using his method. Look him up and check his sig for the link.

Here is how I attach mine. I like this method because it ends up being super secure and is removable. It also tucks the ridgeline so that a bugnet can be sewn on easily. Hope it helps
