how to replace line with straps?

I have the older HH with the spectra lines. Id like to explore the opportunity to totally replace the lines with 1" straps at the point where they tie onto the hammock body. Has anyone pulled back the tie on cover and seen how feasible that would be?

The attachment to the whipping seems more conducive to rope than webbing straps. When I switched to ring buckles I just used the existing ropes to atach the rings and then cur the excess off.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Pic below from wilsonbmw's gallery. I think he was the first to take an HH apart.

Here's the thread for the cinch buckle and strap mod:

    Cinch Buckle Mod

    See AngrySparrow's post, 3rd down.
It does involve using a bit of rope from the hammock out to the buckles.

    Works great!

The cinch buckles do work well but be careful to file them down or they will cut the HH spectra cord after a while. I had to redo everything after 100 nights. The cinch buckles were wearing through the outer jacket of the cord.

All the more reason to use Angrysparrow's directions and retie with something like 1/8th amsteel blue.
