I have an 11' ridgeline "walk in" type sock. figured that way I can leave my boots on the ground without worry. added 2 tie outs per side to keep the main part away a bit from hammock. used large buttons to close the one and only door. will post pics of it soon
heavy, but then again it will be in a pulk, not backpack

This seems to work well with my layering method or military system. Just need some type of shelter for cooking and i'm all set . From what i read you still need a tarp for heavy snow fall .

I have made quite a few canvas socks.
As noted in your reference article in the OP they work best below 20, and even better at -20.
