Tarp Skins in The Stuff Sack?

    Another ultimate colossal noob question....

Does the tarp in the skins go in the stuff sack ?
Or do you just fold up the tarp-inside-skins combo and pack like that ?
My initial feeling is a tentative no ...tarp inside skins is good. ....Just in case this is a really stupid question.
I was thinking of just folding them up and putting it in my outside pouch pocket on my pack.
Or is it more of a preference thing?

that extra 4oz might be a deal breaker.

My tarp skins never come off the ends of the tarp. You install them once and leave them in place.

So, yes, they go into the stuff sack.

They're great for deploying the tarp in the wind because you can have your ridgeline all in place and the tarp in the exact place you want. You can leave the tarp skins on if the weather is nice so that you can move quickly to get the tarp deployed if needed.

And they're great for easy packing of the tarp - deal with the guy lines, pull the snake skins into place, undo one end of the tarp and stuff the sack as you're moving to the other tree...neat and tidy.

I don't see the point of having a stuff sack and a skin. Stuff it in the skin, fold it up, and use the guy lines to secure it together, and pack it away.

I find tarp skins keep it nice and tidy. You just rig up the tarp, pull back the skins and then the tarp unfolds. Come pack up, just pull the skins on, roll up the tarp as you go, done. Fold the rest in the stuff sack or bishop bag, cinch up the end, pack away. I've got a 12' Cuban fibre tarp so having skins and a bishop bag I find an easy set up and pack down.

I put my skins/tarp in a stuff sack, then inside my backpack (mainly for protection against snags).
I can see how keeping it packed outside your pack and without a stuff sack would be lighter and easier to deploy in rain.

If the tarp is wet, it will get other gear wet if it isn't in a stuff sack - not a concern if everything else is 'waterproofed', I suppose.

I kinda didn't either really....other than maybe a little more protection for the netting.

I put mine in a small stuff sack most of the time. Keeps other stuff dry as I carry it the top in my pack mostly. Any way works though. Loose in a mesh pocket or sacked. It is your pack. All just options.
    Carry forth.
