But they concluded that the lightest hammock was 15oz, which is absurd, considering that Watermonkey made a hammock with net for 10oz, and that's with a full bug sock.
So technically you should be able to decrease the weight by having integrated netting. Does anyone know of a vendor or DIY that does this?
Also, does anyone know how one buys from PapaSmurf? Aren't there several PapaSmurfs?
PapaSmurf is who runs Dream Hammock. The website is where you'll find his stuff. He no longer makes the Darien UL, if that's what you were looking for. Also, keep in mind a zipper weighs more than some mesh, by how much and whether or not it comes out as a wash, I don't know. But since I can't get the Darien UL, I've been poking around at other options, and I think a BIASWWM (butt in a sling weight weenie micro) with one of Randy's nets will get me pretty darn close to the weight of a Darien UL with the added option of not bringing the net when I don't need it.

Why is the Darien UL no longer available? Too fragile?

Watermonkey cited a 2 oz bug sock made out of tulle. I bought some of that same tulle from PapaSmurf. It is incredibly light and incredibly fragile. I used it to make a bug net to use on my deck, but I wouldn't waste my time taking it to the woods. Even being used on my deck, it got a tear in it after a half dozen uses.
Here is a photo of it. It barely looks like it's there, because it is barely there....

... and the Watermonkey hammock was 9ft by 4ft I believe. Which is on the small side for most of us.
So can you comment on the durability of Zpacks netting?

My kids have Dariens single layer 1.1. Good up to 200#. I think they weigh 16 oz with whoopies attached.
Can't go wrong with Dream Hammocks. Long live the Roaming Gnome!
That being said, I'm extremely satisfied with my BIAS kit. Original 11' Weight Weenie + Buganator net. I like the option of not taking what I won't need.
They make lighter. WW Micro + Buganator Nano, and I'll have that set up too, sometime this year. My present rig will make a wonderful loner, to anyone I care to drag out of the dirt with me, in the future.
I've put some miles on mine and have yet to notice any appreciable wear and tear, outside of a flat spot on my Amsteel Whoopies, where my UQ gets clipped on.

Yes and no. I have it, but never got around to using it.
The tulle I have tears easily in both directions. The Zpacks Ultralight I got a couple of years ago is a bit harder to tear in one direction and much harder to tear in the other.
As has been stated, the lighter the equipment the greater the care required.

I should mention that a few others have stated that stronger tulle exists, but I never found it.
