Whoopie sling tools???

I recently watched a YouTube video on how to make whoopie slings, yet I have some questions. I ordered some amsteel 7/64th.

Here are my questions

1. How do I make a "fishtool" and what I should make it out of, and if the material can be found at a hardware store.

2. What is tapering the ends, and how do I do it? Is it necessary?

3. Last, but not least, what the heck is milking the bury?

I would greatly appreciate any help whatsoever. Thanks.

I used a piece of stainless TIG welding filler rod. Bent in half. 3-50cents.
I have found tapering the ends by removing 1inch of 3 of the 8 strands makes it much easier.

For a fish tool I untwisted a bike's brake line and used one of the strands. Just get a long enough piece and then bend it in half.
Pretty much any wire that is strong enough to not break under a little tension will do.

To taper the ends you just unwind the amsteel so the individual threads come apart at the end. Then you trim a few of them off, its not required but makes pulling the ends through for the burying part A LOT easier. Like I said, not required but definitely recommended.

I think milking the bury refers to the way you pull it through with the fish tool. If you don't use the right technique the rope just tightens on itself and it is impossible to pull through. I spent about 20 very frustrating minutes trying to pull it through because I didn't pay attention to this part.

After you get the first one you will fly right through the second and then you will want to just keep making them. Good luck!

Simply fold a thin but stiff wire in half. Guitar strings, craft wire and safety wire are a few of the many wires used.

Tapering is picking out half of the strands in the last 1-1.5" and cutting them off . Skip in to ~0:50 min....

Stop now - send back the amsteel. There still is time to save yourself! Once you start, there is no going back. Next thing you know, you have 1000' of amsteel on order, don't need any yourself, but you just can't help yourself.

Dutch now sells a metal needle. So you can either push or pull the tapered end thru. If the amsteel has 8 strands and you want to easily push or pull it thru its own lenth tapering or removing several strands about an inch from the end, will help make it easier to go thru.
You can also purchase a plastic needle from walmart and such. I use 2 different thicknesses of wire. One is a little thicker then a paperclip and I use that for the zing it, lash it and such. I have a thicker piece of wire that I somehow had in the garage. I think it was bailing wire. I just bend one end giving me enough to work with, about 1.5 inches on the small one and 3 inches on the large.
I would keep checking youtube and the stickies which wil direct you to youtube. I ordered amsteel and within 15 minutes I had whoopies. I purchased the plastic needle but ultimately preferred the wire. I still use the needle to open the wholes in the strands or to pull the strands in order to taper.

I have started using a long latch hook for long buries. Countryroads showed me at Nehha.
