VIDEO: Hammock Length vs Hammock Comfort

I've made 3 hammocks over the past 20 months or so and each of them is a different length. In the comments on my "How Greg Makes a Hammock" video I asked if it would be useful to show how the different hammock lengths effect the comfort of the hammock. I got a resounding "Yes Please" to that question so here it is.

    The 3 hammocks are:
    #1: 9 1/2 feet of material. 96" ridge line
    #2: 10 1/2 feet of material. 106" ridge line
    #3: 12 1/2 feet of material. 116" ridge line

I was surprised at how much the length of the hammock changes the apparent width of the hammock. I hope you find this helpful.

I've always said that additional length does more for comfort than additional width. It takes the length to be able to make use of the width.

Thanks for the great video. Just when I was starting to wonder about the quilts you presented the answer. I too have found that the ends of my 3/4 bottom quilt shouldn't be tensioned as tight as my full length quilt.

Now I'm looking even more forward to the arrival of my 11 footer!

They're all made from a standard bolt of nylon. So they start out at 60" (5 feet) but I lose an inch or so due to the rolled hem. But 60" is close enough.

VIDEO: Hammock Length vs Hammock Comfort

Nice video and I couldn't agree more that length is the most important factor affecting comfort.
Here is an old video post of mine discussing hammock width that compliments this thread....

Thanks for the review, and I second your findings. I noticed an increase in comfort when I switched from a Traveler (10 feet), to a Weight Weenie (11 feet).

When I see someone lay REALLY asym like that it makes me wonder about all the fabric real estate that's just kind of there to either side of you.
It seems like there should be a way to get rid of it and save some bulk and weight.
