    Zipper vs Velcro vs ??

The whole hammock thing is new to me, and DIY sewing projects are not. I have read a few threads on adding zippers, or Velcro fasteners to the hammock. Has anyone played with using magnets for this application? Sure, they may add some weight, but a few would go a long way, wouldn't they? Kinds a like that screen door thingy you can put over your open door to allow airflow into your home. Something in that ballpark? Yay? Nay?
What do you all think would be the pros and coins of maybe using magnetic clips instead of Velcro or zippers? Just curious

Yes, about a year ago there was a long thread about magnetic attachment of underquilts. Try a goole search followed by "site:www.hammockforums.net"

That is thinking outside the box. Velcro wears out, zippers break, magnets are always magnetty!

I've thought about that a little. But more on the lines of making dry sacks. Use bike tubes as the sealing part at the top and add magnets so that your dry sack automatically closes. I haven't made one yet but maybe i'll get around to it and post something.

Eventually if you become too enthusiastic with magnetic gear though, everything will stick to the wrong things. (unlike Velcro, which doesn't transpire material.)

That gives me a few more ideas. But not quite what I had in mind. When I get something either made or drawn up, I will post more. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can start on this , what seems to me, is going to be a big endeavour haha.

what about flexible magnetic strips? Is that an option... ?

I've been toying with the possible idea of using buttons and buttonholes on the hammock to attach undercover and over covers...or as a way to hold up underquilts IF its able to take the weight.....

You're not concerned about accidentally sliding your wallet into your pack, next to your pile of magnetic material?

For bug netting, zippers are the only way to go, IMO.
I've done a few DIY projects and I don't have a lot of use for Velcro.
