Wayover, I not sure I'm qualified to answer the question, but what is the maximum weight capacity you want? I've done a lot of sewing over the years and have to say I'm not impressed with the fabrics in the local stores anymore. I've found the fabrics at RSBTR and Dutch much nicer and considerably cheaper and they are purpose built for the task. Have fun shopping.

My weight is right around 200, give or take, raftingtigger. The wife, who may end up sleeping in a separate such hammock if my tests prove successful, is about 60 lbs lighter. I know I could use crinkle taffeta, which should be strong enough and out of which I've made a gathered-end hammock. But I think I'd prefer something with cotton in it since it might feel better against the skin. Kind of a secondary detail really, but thought I'd ask what might suit.

Well after this thread got bumped the other day I got reminded that I wanted to build one (despite not really needing it) as it's just cool looking

I used some spare nylon webbing and reinforced the loops with a bit of mule tape. Hammock body is just plain old 1.3oz ripstop.

Thanks for the idea and descriptions tree fool :-D

    Here's mine, just finished yesterday:

Both ends are open on mine, since the idea here is to possibly use this as an indoor, year-round hammock for full-time sleeping. Began evaluating it last night. Not a resounding success, part of which is due to the fact that I've had to think up a temporary arrangement for hanging it while testing. While it hangs fine, it's a pain to get into and out of.

Again, thanks for offering this DIY, refreshing.
