Easy DIY Control for flopping strap ends

Another Exped (EDIT: and Camelback, and...) idea.....

Some velcro or union tape and a few minutes of sewing, and you can 'wind up' those flopping strap ends.

The pictures tell the story...you need to stitch together 'half and half' strips of Velcro/Union tape so they will wrap around the strap and fasten together, then stitch the Velcro to the strap end.

If your machine can handle it, you can double the webbing around the Velcro before you stitch, 'trapping' the Velcro inside the webbing- it's a bit neater-and easier to sew since Velcro 'hook' can snag the thread sometimes-, but no strength is needed for this 'mod', so you don't need a very 'strong' attachment.

He makes it sound that way but all of my Camelbak hydration packs (including one that's ~7 years old) have that feature.

Thanks, gmcttr - I edited my post. I should browse the shelves in the gear stores even more than I do already!

I guess the real question is: "Why doesn't everybody do this with their straps?"

I got a used (and admittedly older) Gregory pack today, and it had a definite 'scarecrow/Ichabod Crane' vibe going before I tidied up the straps.

Excellent question. I just checked my Dakine and GoLite packs and they don't have it.

Northern Tools has something similar (I think). Picture a velcro strap in the shape of an "i". There are 2 sizes, 8" and 12" (don't hold me to the lengths) the eye is a horizontal slit and the end of the tongue has 2" of "hook" material on the reverse side.
    Sound like what you're describing?
