Blackbishop sack?

Hello all,
I've been reading this forum a lot, and posting very little for a couple of years.
I know that I've seen at least a thread and maybe a DIY about the whys, and how to doits of a Blackbishop sack, but it seems that no matter how I phrase my search I can't come up with anything that helps.
I've got a HH Explorer Deluxe, JRB winter nest UQ, JRB cat tarp and the strap/ring buckle set up.
I'm trying to decide if I should leave my UQ on the HH during multi day canoe or kayak trips. Due to my job, most of my boating trips seem to come along in early Spring or mid to late Fall. Just trying to streamline and simplify the whole set up, take down routine.
My tenting buddies are asking more and more questions about the hammock way while trying to find places to pitch on the ground, and I really would like to grind it in.

By far, the easiest way to do it is to take an existing stuff sack or bag that will hold all your stuff. Then just burn a hole big enough for your line to exit the bottom of the bag. Done.

When I get in the mood to custom fit a bishop bag, I squish down my setup inside a plastic grocery bag. A little duct tape helps hold the final shape. Then I just measure the length and circumference. With those numbers I cut a piece of fabric to the correct dimensions then you can just follow these directions. When you're done, burn your suspension hole in the bottom and you're ready to roll.

The Black Bishop bag is a stuff sack that will hold: your hammock, Or: your hammock & underquilt Or: your hammock & underquilt & overquilt. It is (Typically) left on the set up even when the hammock is in use.

The way I use mine, I have all 3 in the stuff sack.

Set up: deternine which end is which, attach support #1 to tree of your choice, hold BB bag & walk to tree #2. Attach to tree. I leave the bag in place at the head end & use it for storage of small items I may need at night, like my headlamp. Set up time (Hammock only, tarp is extra) 30 seconds. Yes, Thirty SECONDS!

Take down: Pretty much reverse the process, stuffin all in as you walk back to tree #1. Take down time about 1.5 min to 3 min.

My BBB has a draw string at each end, no reason really I guess, It just does. As your UQ is in place already, as is your OQ, set up is near instant. No rigging the UQ, no unstuffing the OQ. AND, stuff I use ONLY in the hammock [small light, sleeping hat, pillow sometimes, etc.] is also already there for my nighttime use. BTW, my set up also includes a hammock sock, it too stays attached & fits in the BBB.

I'll try to do pictures soon, maybe even a short video. No promises, but I'll try.

Thanks for the replies. The idea of a stuff sack with drawcord on both ends seems simple enough for me. That method would seem to eliminate one end of the suspension floating around uncontained. I've got the foot end 'biner marked to make it easy to differentiate it from the head end. I'm not sure why, I just kind of like it that way. Doing the same thing to one end of a double ended stuff sack should be a piece of cake.

I'm new to the real life practice of using this hammock rig, and appreciate being able to mine all of the knowledge (and humor) of HF!

With the double ended stuff sack that came with my BB, I leave the foot end biner and a few inches of strap hanging out, and the head end strap and biner stuffed all the way in, so I don't have to wonder which is the foot and end up hanging the direction opposite to how I want it to go. Nor do I have to mark or tape the end to identify it. Used to have a bit of duct tape on the foot end rope of my HH.

I for one would love to see pics and/or a video. I'm fascinated with the idea of leaving my underquilt attached to the hammock as that seems to take up quite a bit of time...not to mention another bag.

Are the Blackbishop bags still being made?

OK, I've been reading various threads that promote the idea of using either a black bishop bags or large snakeskins, to stuff one's entire hammock setup into. This includes the hammock, top quilt and under quilt. While this sounds super convenient, I have two misgivings. Mind you, I'm a newbie, so these are only theoretical misgivings.

One concern is what do you do with wet straps? How do they co-habitate with your down quilts? Do straps, rings, buckles, etc. snag your gossamer momentum quilt covers?

Second concern is that this practice would create a huge lump of gear that would be hard to handle. It would seam to me that having three smaller packages (hammock, top quilt, and UQ) one could pack their backpack more efficiently.

What's the scoop?

I pack everything that should be dry into the pack liner, roll it down, and then put the bear can, the hammock stuff sack and the tarp stuff sack on top.

Or, tarp in one outside pocket, hammock in the other.

As much as they ever were - no one put them into production for sale. People make their own. The only ones I've seen sold come with the Warbonnet Blackbird.

I frequently use a double-ended stuff sack. One end has a very short piece of drawstring - just enough to get a suspension ring through when loosened up, and the other is a longer string with a cord lock.

One concern is what do you do with wet straps? How do they co-habitate with your down quilts? Do straps, rings, buckles, etc. snag your gossamer momentum quilt covers?

I use either two descending rings as cinch buckles or a single descending and headchange4u's single line suspension. Either way, the rings (and the line, in the case of the SLS) hang out of the bag. My tree straps are separate, and get stowed in a pocket on the outside of my pack.
I have not had any problem so far with snagged gear. When I have my very fragile silk gauze mosquito net with me, it stays in the bag until I'm ready to deploy it. Since my double ended bag always stays attached to the foot end of the hammock, and that's where the net is 'permanently' attached, I always stuff it the net into the bag separately, then the rest of the setup.

Even with an underquilt and a sleeping bag in the mix, everything fits easily into my bag. So it is a large lump, but it is a squishy and easily deformed lump.

I like the weight in my pack very low, so my bear can goes in the very bottom of my pack, and the bishopbag in the bottom of the main compartment.
