    Under belly gear sling

I have been looking into using a mini hammock under my hammock to store all my gear in. The way I see it is why am I going to sleep suspended off the ground and leave all my gear on the ground. I see that ENO makes one for $30 but why buy one when I could make one right?

Who has used one and what are your thoughts?

If I make one I plan on securing it right to my hammock suspension with whoopie slings.

Might as well make it a gear hammock, pack cover, chair multi-use item.

I like that idea a lot. At first I was planning on making it small enough that it would fit in the snake skins with the hammock but that is a better idea.

Gear hammocks sound interesting, but I just use a carabiner or two and clip my pack & perhaps stuffsacks to the hammock suspension.

(You do need a long-ish tarp to make this work..)

I was thinking of weaving a small one out of spare mason line since I have so much of it. It would be very light and pack small plus allow my pack to dry quickly when hung there.

It wouldn't hold small items but I usually keep those in my pack or could use a ridgeline bag.

Well I'm gonna give it a shot this weekend. I have some left over 1.1oz rip stop and I'll see what I can come up with. I'll post pics when it's done.

If there was a bit of mesh you could clip/velcro into the hole, I'd say get a bit of alternate use out of a toilet hammock

I am looking at a zippered solution, so I could make a silnylon version and it could be a pack cover, a gear hammock, a toilet hammock, or a sling-chair...

+1 on this. It was my first DIY

A photo of it in action (it's not the greatest pack cover or chair, but I love the gear hammock mode)
