DIY Gathered End 1.1 Double + Sock

Selling my DIY gathered end 1.1 double and sock, here are the stats:

    • 9' 9" x 63" (I'm 6'5" and made it long to fit me)
    • Extra long whoopie slings, you can customize length if you want to shave a little weight
    • Digital camo tree straps measure ~ 76"
    • Black Diamond carabiners rated for 24 kN
    • Adjustable length whoopie sling ridgeline, comes off easily if you don't want one
    • Openings on both ends of hammock, opposite sides, for sliding in insulation
    • Zippered cover, probably most accurately called a "sock"--made to go around top and bottom insulation

The cover/sock is 100% functional, but as a tinkerer, there are a few things I would probably do if I was going to keep it:

    • A small loop sewn into the top you could run the ridgeline through to keep the sock from spinning around you
    • A longer, double zipper
    • Remove some excess fabric on the bottom

As far as the zipper is concerned, it would be handy to have a double zipper to allow you to keep the far end zipped but unzip in the middle. I also cut the opening for the zipper too long, thinking I would use zipper coil, but ended up using a shorter zipper out of a fleece sleeping bag--had to go back and close up the excess zipper opening.

And as far as the excess fabric is concerned, I made it very large to begin with to be sure it wouldn't compress my bottom insulation, but it wound up being too much, some of it could come off and it still wouldn't compress a winter quilt.

Again, 100% functional, just some little things that could be tweaked.

    $75 TYD CONUS

    Great setup 8crow

Just wanted to ask about the hammock's dimensions. It says 9'9 and you are 6'5, meaning it is shorter than average for your height. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't a typo because if it was 10'9 I would be very interested (I'm 6'3 myself so looking for something long).

Well...I didn't do a good job of stretching it out the first time I measured but I thought I was close. I got it all back out and got a better/longer tape, though, because you made me wonder. It's been a while since I made it but I distinctly remember making it longer than usual for my height. I still don't have it stretched out really tight, but it does look to be in the neighborhood of 123", or 10' 3" so I was off by a good 6" the first time. Hope that helps.

That is ~123" with the hammock laid out on the floor, stretched out as best I can, measuring gathered end to gathered end.

The ridgeline is adjustable, but is maxed out around 114-115".

Well if you feel it's roomy enough for you at 6'5 I guess it's roomy enough for me at 6'3.

    Okay last questions:

Are the ends and sides hemmed? I know it's a gathered end but couldn't tell if there is a cord running threw those end channels. I only ask because I would probably whip the ends instead since I need the W fold for a sidesleeping lay.

Would you happen to have a scale to weigh the whole bag?

Thanks and sorry for being a pest

No problem. To answer your questions...

It is hemmed all the way around and the ends do have a channel with the black & tan cord you see in the pics running through them, cinched down and then wrapped back around outside and tied off.

Weight in the stuff sack with the sock included is 2 lb 7 & 3/8 oz. There is a ton of extra length on the whoopies you could get rid of if you wanted to shave some weight.

I won't claim to be an expert regarding sizes/lengths and it's "homemade" so you don't know exactly what to expect from a quality perspective. If you decide it's not for you, ship it back and I will refund what you paid.

Another stupid question on the length, is the length shown in the picture the length with the Ridgeline attached? I ask because the Ridgeline is usually shorter than the hammock body. Can you confirm the length without the Ridgeline attached?

Correct. The length shown in the last picture is without the ridgeline. So...

Total length of hammock body: ~123"
Length of ridgeline: adjustable, but ~115" max
