March - Snowshoe Overnight at Kane Mtn, Caroga Lake NY

Okay guys, I commented in my other thread a couple days ago but I think that thread has lost interest because I didn't set dates or locations until now. That said:

    MARCH 15-16
    KANE MOUNTAIN FIRE TOWER
    CAROGA LAKE, NY

We will snowshoe up the mountain, it's about 0.75 miles and not TOO steep, a super easy 20 minute hike in the summer. Short enough that if you want to bail then you can be back to your vehicle in a little over a half hour going slow on snowshoes. We will hike in Saturday morning and set up camp, spend one night and hike out Sunday. There is a small ranger cabin up there that is open (think, enclosed log lean-to). I don't have the right gear to hang in the winter yet so I will stay in the cabin where there is plenty of room for probably at least 10 more people.

Let's start a list of who is in and get this official! By this time it shouldn't still be too too cold but there will surely still be snow!

Sounds great but I'd rather not drive so far to get there...

I may try to go in. It's a long drive for one night though.

I would love to go. I live an hour away and I need a winter camp. If there is any other takers I could go on Friday.

OOPs. I just mentioned this to my wife and she "informed" me that we are going to my nephew's birthday party. Da...I mean lovely children.

Well how about we put a possible ixnay on the snowshoes and move it to March 29-30? That's my next available weekend. At that point I may even hang if the weather is fair.

I'll pencil that in. We may still have snow anyway.
