I am at a decision point with my 8' wide tarp I'm building. My 11'x10' tarp has, of course, an 11' ridge line and it does fine - but it has a bunch of extra width. For this one I thought I'd do a 12' ridge line.
But - there seem to be some questions popping up in my brain - like, if I have a 12' ridge, will I have to hang the tarp higher than normal to avoid the hammock suspension hitting the tarp? And if that's so, then how weather-protective will a tarp be if it's way higher than the hammock?
So right now it's cut and hemmed at 12' long, ready to receive tie-outs and ready for my cat-cuts on the sides. but I'm not so sure about that 12' length. Any thoughts or advice on this? I've actually thought about leaving it at 12' and cutting it to a 12x8 hex (with 8-foot-long sides, cutting 2 ft out from each end). Sort of like a WB Edge but 12' long.
BTW, my hammock is an 11' SLD Streamliner with about a 9.2' fixed ridge line. So at 11', I'd have maybe a foot or so at each end, but at 12', I'd have 1.5 feet.
Thoughts?
