    FL>LWRSF>2014>3rd Annual Sherpa Hang

I have a couple of photos already to get things started. Quite a few folks are already getting settled in and the food should start kicking into gear soon.

Ok, I'm on my way back to take my second load to the camp

Edit: I added in a few more pics... mountainman breakfast and grits in the dutch ovens, Floridahangers biscuits in his oven made from foil lined cardboard, cooking krauts on palmetto sticks, and of course, peach cobbler

Getting our dates drunk, hanging out around the fire, and cooking our dates wrapped in bacon (sounds pretty racey ). I forgot to take a pic of the peach cobbler.

What a fantastic weekend with a fantastic group of people. Friday 11:00 a group of 8 to 10 had gathered and began the sugar sand struggle down the trail. Daemon seemed to enjoy his new role as Sherpa Dog Extraordinaire. The afternoon was spent setting up including extra tarps over the cook area for the forecast rains. Others continued to drift in over the rest of the afternoon. Then the seemingly never endless food fest began. Followed by good times and conversation around the fire.

Saturday began with more food followed by people going about their own thing, some hiking, some paddling, me fishing and some just relaxing around the fire ring. Then the rains came. Some had managed to escape to their hammocks and rode it out there. Most of us ended up under the tarps trying to keep them in place and protect the cook area. It could have been bad but we survived and it actually seem to be fun. Then the sun was back out with sweltering humidity. The evening consisted of more food and campfire time.

Sunday arrived with an attempt to consume the rest of all the food brought. Then the hard part, packing up and goodbyes. All in all another great hang.

Now to the lost and found. Who is missing a knife? Grinder are you missing a cup? PM me if so.

The computer and I are having some differences of opinion so photos will follow later. I'm surprised I made it this far.

A personal Thank you to Lifescout, C+1 and Little Lifescout. Your gift will get a lot of use as soon as this cataract is repaired. And Tuck your gift will be savored and enjoyed.

    FL>LWRSF>2014>3rd Annual Sherpa Hang

The best way that I can sum up the weekend is this, ".... and a good time was had by all."

It wasn't just the fact that we were swimming in the creek in February (we always do that in Florida). It wasn't the fact that we consumed 10,000 calories per day (we always do that in Florida).

What it was is this; sharing a weekend of our lives with our caring friends that we can't live without.

This was a backcountry car camping trip. It's just like car camping with several Dutch ovens, double burner Coleman stoves, coffee percolators and the kitchen sink (actually, two kitchen sinks), BUT, cars were left at the trailhead and all that gear was hauled over a mile into a backcountry campsite with no facilities!

We figured that only crazy people would do a thing like that, so that seemed to fit us well.

And finally, pictures of food... Thai chicken soup, lasagna, Aztec chicken stew, mountain man breakfasts (54 eggs per D.O.), cheesy bacon grits, biscuits, bratwurst, chicken salad on rye, peach cobbler, peach cobbler, peach cobbler (we like those) and drunken bacon wrapped dates skewered with a palm frond and cooked over the fire pit, etc. etc.
