Virtually always solo, unless you count my dog. Best hiking companion ever!

However, in extreme winter conditions, I DO leave him at home.....

Other than very short hikes, like a weekend, I always go solo. I enjoy going at my own pace which is ultra slow uphill, very fast on flats, moderate on downhills. Besides that I enjoy the tranquility of being alone in the wilds. I find that once beyond a few weeks I occasionally enjoy seeing others in the evening at camp, if that happens. I'm usually the first to turn in and the first up, so the socializing is minimal.

Solo when no one else wants to go, otherwise I bring the family. The poll needs another option.

No choice for me on poll either

going with company is my first choice, but if no one can go, I'll go solo
I used to not go if I couldn't find company, but I grew tired of not going as much as I wanted so I started going solo (and it is growing on me)

I go when I want to. If friends want to go too then I do like having some company on the longer trips but if not then I go on my own. I plan my trips well so my family knows if I'm not back by X day or I haven't called to explain then something is wrong.

I can go solo or with someone. Even if I am hiking with someone I usually end up hiking by myself but I do enjoy sitting around at night talking.

I voted always solo, but if there had been an "almost always solo" option, I would have picked that.

I hike solo about half the time. But I always am self-contained - no shared gear.

I solo occasionally, but mostly backpack with other people. My wife got a lot more comfortable with me going out solo after I picked up a SPOT transceiver. Other than converting to hammocking, one of my better investments.
