+1 on what Brandon said. If you have lots of things or a heavier item or two stowed away on the shelf and you do not stake it out the shelf will be pressed up against you and you can get condensation on the shelf fabric from your body heat. I had it happen once when I didn't properly stake it out and some of my items got wet.

Hi Everyone this is my first post but I'm also having issue with this as my dog gets tangled in the lines. He never gets tangled in the tarp lines just the front line off the hammock. I quit using it as I woke up one morning with his head all tangled in it. I don't feel it's much less room without it staked and I still stake the shelf, so was also curious if there was any other reason for staking out the front?

    For a 'dog-trap'?
I dont' think so. Mostly it just makes it roomier and keeps the netting from drooping down in your face. At least, that's all I've figured-out about it.

Welcome to the forums and I'm glad your dog survived the trap you set for him!

    Welcome to the forum.

No, the 'roominess' feel is the only real reason to stake the sides out. It works just fine without doing so.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What about attaching the pullout line up a little higher, maybe to a stick or trekking pole first, then guying and staking out from there? Maybe that would help keep the line up and away from the dog a bit? Can this be done do you think?

I thought about trying to attach it higher but haven't attempted it yet. I'm going out again this weekend with the dog... so I'll give that a shot.

Please let us know how it goes! I'm sure it would be helpful for others that bring their dogs.

    Have fun!

I just attach the BB tieouts to my tarp guy lines and works quite well for me.
