Anyone ever permanently attach whoopie sling

I am making whoopie slings for our enos. I have already made adjustable ridge lines and I am now contemplating permanently attaching the whoopie slings to the hammock. Instead of using the larks head method I am thinking about running the Amsteel through the sewn channel and then creating the locked brummel eye splice. from there just create the whoopie as normal. i am interested in hearing the pros and cons.

I am interested in hearing why the larks head isn't going to work for you. I can think of lots of cons, can't really think of a pro offhand.

    I'll be honest … I can't think of a pro.

The biggest con I see is that since it won't be larks headed on, there won't be anything that tightens to really gather the ends of the hammock. So I imagine this will alter the lay of the hammock, possibly even every time you get out and get back in.

I run my UCRs/whoopies through the end channels on several of my hammocks but keep continuous loops handy. My motivation was saving weight and decreasing minimum hang distance Derek H has some good reasons to keep them:

I keep them in my travel hammock now.

Ok I have no problem with using the larks head, I was just thinking that since my ENO hammocks have a continuous loops that are larks headed in place It got my mind going that I could replace the loop with the fixed end of the whoopie sling, now granted It will be a bit more difficult but I think I can get the fixed loop end tight enough to take the place of the existing loop that is larks headed. I guess a second option is to do a lighter continuous loop from amsteel, larks head it in and then attach the whoopie slings.

Whoopies get wet in the rain so you may want to have an easy way to detach them from to hammock to pack them out separately. Removing and reinserting them in the hammock channel can be a pain on a multi day trip.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are asking about attaching the whoopie slings directly to the hammock instead of to the existing loop. If this is correct, then certainly you can replace the loop with the whoopie. Undo the larkshead in the loop and use it to pull the fixed eye end of the whoopie sling through the channel. Then pass the adjustable end through the fixed eye, tighten it up and you're done. This will have the whoopie larks headed through the channel and is one of the standard methods of attachment.

That would be something I hadn't thought of Thanks.

I was originally thinking to build the fixed end of the whoopie on the hammock permanently rather than using the standard way of attachment.

I'm a big fan of Dutch Whoopie Hooks - they are a natural water break. It makes it easy to separately pack dry hammock and wet suspension.

You have several options I can think of.

    1) Run the fixed eye of the whoopie thru the channel and the whoopie thru the eye. Nice & clean no extra hardware or cordage.

    2) Larks heading the whoopie to the continuous loop (CL) is an alternative.

    3) Change the connection method to the CL with a whoopie hook and create a drip loop as a bonus.

    4) Tie a knot in the channel and larks head the whoopie just below the channel. Or add whipping below the channel.

For whipping I've became a fan of using a 2 mm dogbone (dynaglide or equal) passing a number of loops thru the eye each time around the hammock body. The New England 2 mm rope not sold as Dynaglide has a tacky feel and seems ideally suited for this. Been using dogbones on my interior hammock for a month or so now.
