Just ordered my first hammock, thanks for the info!

The only hammock I've ever been in was a brief lay in an Eno Doublenest.

Not being totally sure hammocking would be for me, I made a baby-step purchase at Warbonnet Outdoors this morning.

    Being 6ft and 175lbs, I ordered:

Blackbird XLC double 1.1 with whoopies
    Winter top
    And
    Digicam Superfly

Plus two Dutch Stingers (whatever those are).

Will I need anything else to get this thing off the ground? I have paracord and a sense of humor on order from Amazon.

Great thing is, if you don't like them, (highly doubtful) you can resell them here in a heart beat. Have fun with it, experiment at home a bunch b4 going out and about. Great choices.

The Hammock will come with tree straps but you may need a couple caribiners or dutch clips if you want to easily attach them to the tree.

    Nice kit ! I approve.

You'll need some bottom insulation - a lot of folks get an UQ.

If you want the crash course, come visit us in Uwharrie next weekend.
There's no time like the present to come meet a bunch of strangers you just met online.
Even if your gear doesn't show up, we'll take tenters. Or shoot somebody probably has an extra whatever.

That is hardly a baby step sir, that is a nice adult step IMO. I just made a very similar purchase. I just added some guyline and carabiners from warbonnet. You'll need some stakes to stake out the tarp and to also stake out the two guy lines on the hammock, although I have yet to do that and may never bother. Other than that you should be good to go. Congrats!

Laying in my XLC was the first hammock I ever spent any appreciable time in other than a couple spreader bar net hammocks that are common in back yards and porches. It has been amazing thus far and I doubt you will be disappointed when yours arrives.

Thanks for the kind words! I would love to finally check out Uwharrie this weekend but I have tentative plans to playboat at the Whitewater Center. I have done lots of exploring at South Mountain, Lake Norman, and Stone Mountain since I got here. I've spent a ton of time in W NC with my kayak and fly rod. Once I get my gear, I'd love to see the different takes on hammocking in a group hang.

Can anybody chime in on true lead times at Warbonnet? Is 2-3 weeks accurate? I'm heading out later this month and my destination will depend on whether I have the freedom of a hammock or my usual flat-spot seeking tent.

Well that is hardly a baby step as that is some good gear. If you start off with that stuff you are bound to love it and need more stuff. It might be best to just go ahead and get a second job now to pay for all the the things you will undoubtedly need.

Welcome and enjoy all of the great info that folks have offered here. They have saved me lots of money on gear I didn't need but cost me with all of the cool ideas.

Ha! I'm such a gearhead it's pitiful. I love fiddling with stuff! I can't imagine how boring it would be if everything just worked perfectly the first time

As to Warbonnet, I just got a shipping notice! So pumped! I ordered on Feb 27 so that wasn't bad at all.
