Noob needs portable hammock stand!
If bamboo grows locally, a Turtle Lady stand is the cheapest. Just rope.
Turtledog's stand seems to be the next best combination of low cost and simplicity.

I live in Ashland KY... You should head this way and hit Red River Gorge. Great hiking. I started hammock camping there about a year ago after MANY years of tent/shelter camping on backpacking trips. I use an ENO single nest with quite a few DIY gear items.
ENO Single Nest
Kayak Straps that I run carabiners through the buckles
Walmart sheer curtain panels- DIY bug net
Walmart she curtain panels- DIY snake skins
Kelty Lightyear 20 (or Slumberjack 0 with DIY slit cut in foot box) for insulation
Walmart 2mil plastic w/ strapping tape- DIY tarp
Walmart boat line (neon orange & green)- tie off lines w/prusics
Walmart "copper looking" stakes
Walmart hiking tarp ($10: 8x10?)- ground cloth
CBlank, the Red River Gorge is on my upcoming list. My wife and I were going to hit a few trails, but one of my sons Boys Scout cam pouts was the same weekend. Pretty cool everything you picked up from WalMart. If you don't mind me asking, what is your average carry weight?

And I'll tell ya.... The Slumberjack 0 used as a DIY Peapod setup I LOVE!!! I've slept in my hammock (no pad, no TQ, no UQ) down to around 10 degrees. I've used sleeping bags with a pad (both a real Z-rest & a DIY Reflectix pad) and I'll tell ya... it was warm, but WAY more uncomfortable. And I was actually warmer with the DIY Peapod setup.
I'm new to hanging, so. Still looking to find my comfort zone.

And this is for a 3 day hike. I tend to pack a little heavier than I should... I could drop 1 of my knives, only carry iodine tablets instead of my SteriPen, ect....
However... I'm not really willing (or able) to spend STUPID amounts of money to go lighter. Or am I willing to sacrifice some of the comforts I like. I always think, "if it's not fun... why do it?"
Some people hate the ENO because you can't get that "perfect flat lay." Plus the single nest does give a bit of squeeze if you're a broader person. I'm 6'0" & 275lbs. Broad shoulders and then I go straight down. I love my ENO Single Nest with the PeaPod setup. The bag/pad setup in the hammock will get you by, but it's just not very comfortable because the pad moves and the compressed bag lets some CBS (cold-butt-syndrome) start to happen. I've been messing with my setup for a year now.... But there's NO way I'd go back to the ground!!!!
