    Wow I reached the end! I hope there is more to come on this!

    Hammock = GrandTrunk $39
    Tarp + Wallymart 8x10 Utility tarp $ 7
    Suspention = Came with the Hammock = $ 0
    Pad = Therma Rest I had but paid $39
    20* sleeping bag

    I went camping with my Scout troop last weekend and I was way to hot in 45* temps and a severe hail storm. Unfortunately we had some of the boys cold, thanks to leaking tents!

    I am looking for a Cheap and Easy way to keep warm in 10* weather in the plains of Nebraska (always windy), I would prefer to never lay on the ground again!

    When I lived in the Nebraska plains I remember being able to see nothing but wheat fields from horizon to horizon, with no trees to break up the scenery. Great for pheasant hunting, bad for hammocks. I hope there's trees in the area that you're planning to camp, or that you're planning to build a portable hammock stand.

    I like to hit some of the state parks because they tend to have a tree or two to hang from. Its hard to get your hands on some cheap DIY materials though.

    Thumbs up Noobs appreciation

    Thank you very much for this sticky thread. I have been thinking about buying a hammock to build up my gear for UL backpacking. With Christmas just passed I finally have some expendable cash and a hammock is what I am going to purchase. I was lost, up until the discovery of this forum. I appreciate this list and the countless helpful threads from all the members. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

    Question which way did i go?

    in 2000, i camped in costa rica for 2 months, primarily in a lite net hammock. it was great. I enjoy relaxin and sleepin in hammocks. i recently decided to do an extensive hike on the AT, and im getting a hammock with bug net for this trip...

    trouble is, there's so many choices that im beside myself. Im 6', 215 and would like a side entry so i can sit in it as well as lay....i can spend up to $200 on the hammock and support lines. i intend to use a tarp and sleep cushion that i already own....so many choices, any advice?

    Heyo, so I'm buying my first rig soon and I'm starting to get a solid idea of the gear that i'm going to purchase, so I'll leave it here as my potential newbie hammock setup and i'd appreciate any comments from the more experienced members.

    Hammock: Mosquito Free Hammock Bliss - At 24oz it's fairly heavy for just the hammock but I'm planning on using the hammock in spring/summer anyway and as I got chewed up last night sitting in a friend's backyard I can't imagine what life would be like sleeping in a hammock with no bug net. At $50 from Campmor the price is right (as I was going to buy an ENO Double for slightly more money).

    Suspension: Along with the included ropes I'll be grabbing two 10' sections of webbing. At $.30 a foot it's a good deal, and I plan on using one of the systems that Grizz posted using two marlinspike hitches: one in the webbing and one on the hammock rope to attach to the webbing for ease of setup, adjustability, and takedown.

    Tarp: El Cheapo 8'x10' from wherever i find a good cheap one, i'm sure you guys have already recommended a few fine options.

    Insulation: As of right now I have a crappy 30deg sleeping bag that's way too big bulky and heavy to do me any good but summers around here usually keep us in the 80-90s every night so I'm not too concerned as of right now, i'm just trying to get out and hang as soon as i can. Eventually I'll probably purchase a good 3-4 season down bag and start saving for a UQ.

    All in all I'm really only making about three key purchases totaling around $80 for a starter rig. Feedback please!
