Clip in footpad/ draft stopper for TQ

    I made a few quilts yesterday https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=89216

I wondered if the sewn through quilt and the top quilt could be combined together to make a more flexible 3 season system.

    I thought that I could combine;
foot calf pad (for 2/3 length UQ)
Draft stopper (for the cinched end)
A system to hold the quilts together without twisting
Could all be removed easily in hotter weather

This is very rough, lots of gaps, loose and baggy and so on but having built it I can see that it could work as an idea.

Its made from DWR 1.1oz, cheap wadding and suspender clips.

    Any suggestions welcome

I thought of doing something but never did. It looks like a good start there with the prototype you have. What about the pad at the end; the gap sealer; does that wrap around and become a footbox that's inside the topquilt?

It 'kinda wraps around' but it is far from a good seal. I think an extra layer that is larger in area added to the existing insulation could help.

    Mk 2

Made another that is larger in width with the grippers moved inwards so as to avoid gaps. The filling on this one is CCF (8mm ish).

This version is much better with no gaps.

I'll probably make a final one with thinsulate as the insulation, or a pocket to accept a foam/ inflatable sit pad.

note; the white thing is a sheepskin simulating my feet

Final version made; its a 200 weight fleece pocket with XL suspender clips attached with 20mm elastic.

Its is designed to be used with my CCF sit pad 20x20"/ 50x50x0.5cm) folded into two. The CCF pad can be easily removed or inserted inside so that it can function as a sit pad during the day and add extra foot insulation while in the hammock at night, if the fleece isn't enough on its own.

It can also be used as a pillow if its turned inside out and stuffed (pic shows it stuffed with my DIY sewn through quilt). I wanted the pillow function as its coming with me to Europe so on hot nights I can use the quilts untied/cinched to help stay cool and have a pillow protector to stop my gear getting sweaty.

Really pleased with it actually, adds lots of foot room and is warm and easy to use. It even helps to keep my new DIY silk liner in place (another anti sweat/ funk feature)

I'm off to the lake district in a couple of days to give it a proper test so I'll know more then.

That looks nice! I've been watching this to see what you ended up with.

I do a very similar thing with my footpad. I glue strip of omni-tape along three edges of the pad and sew a corresponding length on the quilt hem. Also, my pad looks a little wider and tapered than your picture suggests.

Interesting way to do it Mad777, how does your method hold up to drafts?

My latest pad is a little over 10" wide. Its arbitrarily sized, testing will tell if size or shape need changing and whether it'll keep out the drafts

I did consider the Velcro/omni option but I was concerned that when sewn in it would inhibit the quilts ability to be cinched in and used as a UQ. I also wanted it to hold a varying number of layers; my trip tomorrow will be around freezing so I will probably layer my silk liner, sewn through down and baffled down quilts together. The only way I thought to do this was suspender grip or the clips that go on the bottom of a pair of braces

Yes, the omni-tape is a bit stiff and would probably be detrimental to a tight seal in under quilt mode.
My top quilts are also dual purpose in that they are wearable. The velco option allows me to open the quilt flat when wearing it as a sarape.
