    Car Camping

Ok folks, I have a dilema!

I love hammocking (no kidding?!) I backpack but do very little car camping. I have come into possession of a great car camping tent. I know that even with this tent, at the end of the night, Im retiring to my hammock, leaving any others to have the tent.

The dilema is this... do I need to keep this tent since *I* will not be using it?
Selling it would allow me to get a new (another) sleeping bag, a new (another) hammock, and a new (another) pack.

Any hammockers with family that car camps? What do you do? I want new (more) gear, but fear the moment that I sell this tent, I'll need it and not have it...

    HELP!!!

I would personally sell it and use it to fund gear that you will actually get use from.

If you do happen to need a tent for a family/friends, a cheap one can be purchased later.

Sell it and buy a cheapo from Walmart because you'll still need a place to keep the beer cooler; best use of a tent I can think of.

    My vote...keep it.
I still have 3 backpacking tents that haven't been used in 3-5 yrs.
All three tents will be used this weekend (I will hangin thank you very much)
I would rather have the option to spend time with the people I'm going with (outfitted in quality gear) than another set-up

Yeah, I'd keep it. You'll be able to spend quality time with those unenlightened few who would like to go with you, but just aren't into hammocks.

I didnt really want to spill the beans on what it is, but its new and nice and big and I paid 0 (zero) dollars for it! It would pure profit... (no, its not stolen, I won it fair and square!)

I sold all my tents except a 2 person Marmot tent that my wife and I sometimes use when she goes with me, which is almost never. She refuses to camp in a hammock. Imagine that: a stubborn woman.

I was just curious. I have a Columbia cougar flats tent that i really enjoy for family tent camping. I would not trade it for a hammock. So I guess it boils down how nice the tent is and how much you would use it.

    It depends!

What are the chances of using it??

If the chances are slim to none, then sell it and get something useful.

If there a good chance of using it, but probably not in the next 4 to 5 years, then again, I vote to sell it and get useful gear.

Even if you use it in the next few years, but only two or 3 times, then you have denied yourself useful gear for something that is only marginally useful.

If you have a good to a very good chance of using it in the next few years fairly often, then keep it and use it for those who don't trust hammocks.

All of this assumes of course that the choice of keeping or selling has nothing to do with your financial situation.

Myself - I'd sell it no matter what and if the need arose for a car camping tent, then I'd rent and share the cost of rental across those using the rented tent or buy el cheapo from WalMart.
