    FL>Northwest>March 14-16

I've finally finished building setups for my two children (6 and 7) and want to take them on their first Hammock trip. We've t*nt camped before and they loved it.

2 questions - 1. What are some good ideas of campgrounds in the North west/North central parts of Florida that would be good for kiddos? Blackwater? Florida caverns?

    2. Anyone available that would like to get out next weekend? Kids are obviously welcome! Group hangs are always fun and I think it would be great to introduce my kiddos to the Hammock with other children.

I'd love to, but unfortunately Mrs. FLRider and I have plans (that's the weekend of St. Patrick's Day, which is when we met). I hope you enjoy your first trip!

A note: if you plan on hanging at a state park (like Caverns), call ahead when you make your reservation and make sure that the sites have been cleared for hammocks, unless you intend on bringing a stand. Not all sites have been cleared to be used with an hammock, and you'll need tree straps for your tarp in addition to the hammock.

State forests, water management lands, national forests, etc. don't have these restrictions.

    Hope it helps!

Thx for the heads up. Will definitely check with the Florida caverns if others want to go. If it's just us, we may quietly slink off into the back 40 and make a go of it.

Just spent weekend at Open Pond in Conecuh National Forest (North of Baker, South of Andalusia). It is seven miles north of AL border - about 20 miles further than Black Water. Lots of trees and no objections to hammocks! Also has a great 5-6 mile hike with springs, fishing lakes, etc... FL State Parks will allow hammocks in designated areas (posts they erect) and many haven't even come on board with that yet.
