I love my Dutch Stingerz but...

So i've had a pair of Dutchware Stingerz for a while now and i love em. I use them on every tarp i have that has soft nylon pullouts, but i'm hesitant about using them on tarps with hard plastic d-rings like a clark or hammockgear. I feel like the metal on plastic just isn't good idea, especially in cold weather. I just have a feeling that they are going to dig in too much and wear them out prematurely or worse, crack them.

Am i the only person who worries about this? Am i over thinking it?

stuff wears out. When the plastic breaks, I'd just get some "split rings" (key chain rings) from the hardware store. It will take longer to go buy or find the ring than to replace it.

I like the split rings as a fail safe.
Had a snow load that was so heavy, the split ring deformed and released the guy line.
Better the ring than the grosgrain tie out loop.

You're probably overthinking it - I would know!

If it breaks, it breaks and you replace it. If you don't want your gear to break, leave it in the closet.

I like to use Tarp Flyz spliced onto a continuous loop of zing-it. I have one that I spliced through both the tarp and the Flyz, but in the future I will just splice the Flyz on the loop and larks head to the tarp. Smaller, lighter, cheaper and no pinch possible.

I mangled a few split rings and all it takes is a little deformation to expose some sharp edges, that's why I like the loop.
