DIY ground cloth/stake & Suspension caddy

I am new to DIY and I wanted to try something easy so I figured I would start with a Tyvek envelope stake & suspension caddy. There are a bunch of threads about it on here, so I had my evening planned out. I made one and it turned out ok, but I wanted to include my ground cloth. I know a lot of people dont think they are needed, but I like to have something clean and dry to put my feet on in the morning. I have been using a heavy 5x7 blue one with grommets (8 oz), but had some rip stop lying around that I have been planning to try some projects with so I figured I would make a smaller/lighter one. My hem is UGLY, but its staying together so I count it a win! I thought I would just roll the tyvek thing up in the ground cloth, then I thought why not just sew the caddy to the ground cloth? So I cut out what I wanted and marked it up then sewed it to the corner of the ground cloth. I think it turned out great. The whole kit now weighs a touch over 10 oz (from 19+ oz before).

I also like having a little clean place to stand in my socks; just a little OCD that way.

Cool idea. I like the multi-function that cuts the weight. I might have to try something like this, if you don't mind.

Did you have a reason for making the flap on that particular side? I wonder if you placed it on the other side, the fold and roll would help keep the hardware from sliding out. Though having it open as you do would make it easy to access particular items without needing to unroll the burrito.

Yes by all means! The thought behind the flap was to keep my little Dutch bling safe. In the tyvek the slid out a lot. With this set up they seem to stay put better. I think I can loose the flap.

A place for everything and everything in its place. I really like this, well done on getting the sizes of the tool roll right.

Is it a single layer of fabric for the ground cloth portion?

My experience, too. I sewed a little stake bag from a used USPS Tyvek envelope and ended up using it as a sleeve in a small silnylon stuff sack - because the stakes were quite slippery inside that Tyvek.

Is that fabric the ol' digi-cam material from Walmart? That was cool, cheap stuff when it was around.

Yep porkchop, single layer for the ground cloth.

No Aaron, I ordered it from DIY supply to make some stuff.
