Partials are lighter and pack up smaller but you will want to add a foot pad for your lower legs. That pad and be dual use for sitting on around camp and during breaks on the trail and or some packs use one for padding so the pad can be a multi use item and be a net savings on weight. A full length though does not need that and some folks prefer not to have extra stuff around their feet when they sleep as well you are carrying one less item to keep track of.

Great answer. You can always get one of each and pick the one that fits the conditions. I used my full length for the whole summer and it was fine. Now that I've got my Jarbridge, I'm looking forward to saving some weight for my summer trips.
Or you can get one custom length, that would fall in between the two lengths, saving some space and weight from a full and still not needing a pad...
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
OK all great info. Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with a full length as that is most likely for me to use in the winter any way and as funds replenish I can get a second lighter weight 3\4 thanks to all who responded again!
I was told, for a very cold sleeper, a full-length UQ is the way to go. Also, if you move a lot, it's probably a good idea to go full-length. Once the full-length underquilt is dialed in, you just set it up and forget it. With a pad under the legs, it's not that easy.
Another thing I found is, that a leg pad probably works best with a top quilt and a closed foot box. I prefer a sleeping bag and I often open the zipper at my feet to help regulate my temperature. This means that a pad will not stay in place.
However, I wish I could use a 3/4 UQ - I own a 3-season Yeti and it packs down tiny and weighs next to nothing...
I haven't tried a 3/4, for the most part im a cold sleeper and sleepers cant bite thru and underquilt. Im still chooseing my next.
I prefer a partial length quilt for summer & 3 season (40* & 20*) ratings but a full length quilt for full winter (0*) rated.

For summer I like a 2/3 UQ and use a full length the rest of the year.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
