Question Do you fold, roll or stuff away your tarp

When purchasing a tarp or tent, it usually comes nicely folded and rolled inside it's sack.

Previously I have continued folding and rolling it, but I am considering if it would be better to simply stuff it into a sack.

That way, stress are put on random places, instead of the same places, and the shape when put in the backpack won't be finite, but can adapt to it's surroundings.

How do you pack away your tarp?

    /Brian

I just stuff it. The only reason I started stuffing it is that it's quicker and easier. I later learned that it does exactly what you said, "stress are put on random places". I like it when the simple way ends up being the better way.

So far, I've been folding and rolling....But, it's like a map, I never can fold it the same way twice. May switch to stuffing, as folding takes to much thinking.

I certainly don't want to claim I know what's best for hammock and tarp. I stuff both for the same reasons as I mentioned above, "quicker and easier". I read a forum post that folding can result in repeatedly stressing the same spots. That certainly makes sense to me.

I have a MacCat deluxe with doors added and found it to be very helpful using snakeskins. I roll it from one end to the middle and skin it, then the other end and skin it. If it's a windy day when I'm setting up, I can unfurl just one end at a time and stake it without the whole blowing away. The snakeskins are about the same size as the ones for my HH ULBA and were made the same color as the MacCat.

THose snake skins seems really cool but I dont know how practical they would be if the next step was puting it in your backpack, to me it seems like stuffing it is the best...then again who am I to say

I stuff my silnylon tarp/tents, my quilts, my tarp for my hammock. I fold and roll tents w/poles or they flat out will not go back into their storage sacks. I fold any type of heavy tarps. and my clark hammock is sort of rolled up till I get to the pocket it all goes in, then I stuff the rest of it.
