If you could do one walk in the USA?

The other day my wife said to me: "Wouldn't it be great if you could go over to the USA and meet people like Dutch, Marty (wilderness Logics) and Bryan (TATO Gear) and any other people we work with through Tier Gear. It would then be a tax deduction and you could go on a big hike whilst you are over there"

Me: "Aagh yep that would be pretty cool".

So for someone from outside the USA, I have been there a couple of times many years ago, what hikes should I be looking at, if this were to eventuate? It's still a long shot but it all starts with a thought, so who knows.

    Fire away.

Probably like many others, I've been pondering the possibility of a thru hike on one of the long trails for a few years. The two I'm most stuck between are the AT and the PCT, the question I keep asking myself is what I want most from my experience. In my mind the AT while certainly beautiful offers a greater opportunity for a unique social experience while the PCT offers more opportunity for solitude but more scenic diversity.

I think maybe the PCT is calling me the most clearly.

It is nowhere near the three of us but the Grand Canyon is a must see. Marty and Tato are down south so I would look at the Linville gorge.

Long thru hikes will probably be out of the question. It will be interesting researching these areas in any case.

Depends on what you want to see. If you're looking for jaw dropping scenery then the West. If you're looking for the social scene of meeting some of those folks and lots of other hangers then the east is where the majority of folks are at.

Agree - pick an area and rent a car - it should be easy to set a schedule/itinerary based on group hangs and PMing those folks you want to meet. Then pick up a cheap cell phone when you get here for communicating.

A tour of HF group hangs would be pretty cool too.

Perhaps you can hit a few, while traveling to or from the Gorge or where ever ends up being your main destination(s).

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a relatively easy, yet beautiful hike with reliable shuttle services etc. THIS randomly chosen blog will give you an idea of what's to see.
    Good luck,

You could start by slipping next door for the April 11-14th HF Hoosier Hang, next month.
