There wasn't a choice for "did what mikenfhaz told me to do", so I picked 'took a chance'. I figured the kit he sold me would teach me whether or not hanging was for me, and I went with it. So far, so good, the little Skeeter Beeter is just the right size and simplicity for me. Taking the setup out for a second run on a 3-dayer on Mt. San Jacinto this weekend. Lows in the 40s, so it should be a good test of my home-made SPE again. I'm probably going to graduate to a better tarp, with a top and underquilt someday, and maybe even one of those fancy hammocks...but that's for a time when money is falling off of trees again

Yes, I should have said he was not on HF. He was young, in the National Guard, and Hiking with his dad, Popeye. He planned on doing a thru, but got off with an injury in the Whites, I think. But he had a hammock and didn't get wet every night that I got soaked.

I was initially motivated in getting some ultralight gear and trying to save a buck. Found a ATTH for a really great deal and picked it up for dual purpose. Used it without a problem for a while, then happened upon a large quantity of ripstop and needed something to do with it, that is when I happened upon HF.

HH ULBP was the only hammock available at REI. So I used my dividend & sales incentive and made the purchased. Didn't know this site existed. 1st test night out it dropped into the 50*F and I froze my butt in a 40*F bag that normally I sleep very warm in at 40F. Internet search. The rest is recent history.

The plan was to get off the ground, sleep in comfort in tropical conditions and Northwood conditions. Don't want to add up the total $$s spent on what was supposed to be a minimal $$ upgrade.

Total newbie here. I did some hammock camping with my dad as a kid, and my bother and I pitched hammocks under the deck as kids. I really just wanted something I could set up in camp to relax in while car/tent camping. I wanted something inexpensive, but built with quality. I was happy when I found the Grand Trunk Tree Sling Hammock at REI as a special buy. To make things even better they were offering 20% off any outlet item. Total was under $25 for a hammock that lists a 400lb weight cap (I figured that way if both kids decided to join me, we still are under the max weight by a huge margin). I did do quite a bit of research however on how I want to hang my suspension system. I'm going with Harbor Freight straps rated at 1500lb (375lb working limit), and I'll work out the fine details as I go along. Package arrived at the store today, so I'll pick it up tomorrow and hopefully get to play with it bit this weekend.

I took recommendations from fellow hikers after seeing them use there HH. I read whatever I could find out, mostly from people using them in the backpacker.com website.

Perkolady told me about the wonderful world of hammocks so I bought one and she told me to come here. Then I went to my first hang and the wonderful world of camping got a whole lot more fun and comfortable.

There's not an option for me. I actually got alot of my info from an old mt biking friend who at the time had been hammock camping for a couple of years. I actually bought my first HAAB hammock because of his info. Then and after the fact I happened upon this wonderful site and became a hammock junkie.
