    A short day trip

I love seeing other peoples photo's and trips so, even though this was only a very short one, I thought you might appreciate mine.

It has rained in South Wales from the end of October 2013 until pretty much now ... but this weekend has been beautiful, so we headed off into the Brecon Beacons below Brecon and set up at this lovely spot.

My wife is spectacularly pregnant now so there is no hammocking for her ... as she cannot easily get out of the hammock again :-( Our dogs had fun in the stream though!

I'm hoping to bob down to the beacons before I bob into Europe for the summer. Where's going to be best for a 2/3 day hammock excursion ?

That is a tough call Scotty ... especially as miles and miles of forest (still shown on the OS maps) have been cut down over the last 12 months. I have planned a few overnighters and then discovered that the forestry is not there any longer!

My money would be on using the waterfalls area around Ystradfellte and walking from woodland to woodland / valley to valley ... just don't be obvious as the National Park wardens discourage wild camping and will move you along if they pass. It is a funny set-up, if you are in the wilds and away from people then the wardens don't see you and don't seem to mind you being there ... it is the obvious / high profile camping that they cannot allow or I guess everyone would be doing it.

Let me know if you are around this area then!

Is the felling with disease or this current shift towards returning it to a more natural state ? I lived in the lake district for few years before travelling last year and they had made some absolute quagmires by removing everything. Having spoke to some people locall I'm told its partly to do with CO2 emisions for the EU, a real shame :/

Can they move you on these days? I thought we had the right to roam? Its not something I have experienced in the north anyway.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a google. I'll let you know when I'm down your way

The felling was linked to the infection and it has left a Somme feel to the valleys now! There is a sort of unwritten agreement in the Park that wild camping by 'outdoors people' is tolerated but out-of-sight out-of-mind ... I guess because of the proximity of the Valleys and the sort of people who like to camp, make fires and illegally offroad :-(

There is the right to roam but that doesn't involve camping lol

ah infections in trees the same variety planted 5' front each other and then they wonder how it gets infected :/

I thought the right to roam was vague enough that it did, kinda. I've never worried about trespass though as I really have no time for 'Ruperts' being rich enough to own a half a county
