Newbie here from Alabama

Hello everyone - I stumbled across this site yesterday. Instantly I knew I was going to join. There is a ton of great info here. I am looking forward to getting my kids & my 1st set-up.

Retired from the Marine Corps in 2004. I am a full time college student at UAB in Birmingham Al. I grew up hunting, fishing, & camping in Oregon. I have 3 teenagers. 2 of them are in scouts and this is where I was 1st exposed to hammock camping.

In the Marines, I flew as aircrew on the KC-130. I have been all over the world in that aircraft. 8 hr flight from So. Cal to Hawaii. I always carried a fishnet hammock that I strung up in the back of the plane. On long trips I always had the most comfortable "seat" in the house.....

First, thank you for your service. Second, welcome from Montgomery. There is supposed to be a group hang the weekend of April 4-6 at the Sipsey Wilderness area a little northwest of Birmingham if you want to get out and meet some local hangers. If you are into DIY at all, this will be a great site for you. Also, the cottage vendors that are represented here are the best. Good luck and God Bless.

IMoseley7 - that would be awesome. Please pm me with info. DIY is one of the draws for me to hammocks. There are so many great ideas. Personalizing my own swing will be a blast.

I am getting some amsteel as we speak.. Lol. I haven't even decided on a hammock yet.
