Indiana - Clifty Falls State Park

Has anyone been to Clifty Falls State Park? We're hammock campers and wondered if anyone could recommend specific sites that had proven hanging trees.

We're going to the music festival and won't have a chance to scout sites before we go. The campgrounds are likely to be full, so pre-registration is important and I can't figure out a good way to make sure we have a site that can hang two or three hammocks.

I have been there. Clifty Falls is a beautiful park. I'm sorry but do not know about the camping. What and when is the festival?

Its the River Roots Music Festival. We're big fans of Elephant Revival and are super excited about seeing them. Takes place May 16 and 17.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been missing those guys.

I'll see what I can dig up on the hammock situation. I would expect, it's the usual. If the site has suitable trees, maybe. If not, then not.

Last time I was at an IN state park, a DNR officer chewed out a group for hanging a small boombox from a tree. Why not just set it on the picnic table? Who knows. But I would definitely worry about a hammock then.

My wife and I will be there for the festival. Have never been but it sounds like an up and coming event. We are staying at a B and B in town though. I'm fairly certain the only place you can camp is the campground near the state lodge. I would bring a hammock stand if I planed on hanging because the rangers are ummm....strict. Beautiful place to hike though. All of the facilities at the area around the lodge are nice. Never have camped there but, the campground appears to be well maintained.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

I'd have to agree, on all accounts. We are clearing our calendar for this one, just the same.

Now if only they could book the Rumpke Mountain Boys

I've never been to this event before. It looks very interesting, and I think that I'll have to check it out. Got to admit that I've never heard of any of these artists.

Thanks for all the advice! Looks like we might need to consider other arrangements.

    Hope to see you there!

Clifty Falls State Park boasts of some of the largest virgin uncut trees ever in the State. And they protect those trees. Even if you could hang there,,you better have some really long tree straps. I am thinking, you better have a portable hammock stand and not touch the trees or find a private campgrounds near. Its not a super large State Park either so the Park Rangers have less to patrol and definitely keep a eye on everything.
