EDIT: this is for a crosgrain type of webbing. For other types with hardware/buckles, I personally would have 10 feet straps with buckles, and then use that to adjust for length between trees if I don't want to deal with adjusting the tarp lines....basically a V strap kind of thing wrapping around the trunk.

or substitute D-ring for a hook sort of thing.
Or a D-ring and velcro. Run the end of the webbing through the D-ring, then back on itself to stick the velcro halves together. Clip tarp line on to the D-ring.

I like this because it really protects the bark of the trees. Thanks, Theosus!

Okay so I've pretty much decided to eliminate the snap hook, and tie on a tarp flyz style hook so I can do a quick pull-and-wrap knot. I've got a couple of old washers the right thickness and I'm cutting them with a dremel and grinder to make my own version of dutch's tarp flyz that I'll fix to the tree strap permanently.

    This DIY stuff is fun.

I'm making my own tarp flyz style hooks to replace those plastic clips. The shape is done, they just need some smoothing with sandpaper so they don't cut the rope. They work great with 330 para cord. Have them a test in the house already

He uses that for the tarp, not the hammock. I can't see what your problme is with it.
