OK, I'm gonna stick my neck out and commit to being at yellow river state forest the weekend of Fri. May 6 and Sat 17, with a rain date a week later, which would be Memorial weekend. I've seen pix of Glen Wendel camping area. Looks like a Pine grove, and real hammock country. Never been there, since it also looks to be a pretty good hike for a self confessed couch cushion. Been to Brown's hollow a coupla times, and Shultz once. Also Heffern's Hill, which was a mud road to get to, so someplace new is in order. Mushroom season should be in full swing, so it looks like a fine place to hunt up a batch. Anybody who shows up will be welcome to help enjoy the coyote serenade.

I hadn't seen this thread before but there are going to be 4 of us at Brown's Hollow Friday night. I think a couple of the guys are planning on camping Saturday night also but I'm not sure where.

I'm going to be in Cedar Rapids and Marshalltown/State Center May 20-24 if somebody wants to check out the Purple Palace tarp made by Squidbilly and the WL Tadpole tarp with door and pole mod.

What have you got in mind, Pat? Meet'ngreet, show'n tell, or an overnite campout? Timmons Grove county campground Between Marshalltown and Albion on Hwy 330 just south of the Iowa river would do for a meeting place anytime other than Wed. Family obligations Wed. It's small, and not well maintained, but does have a few "hammocky" looking trees. It would be nice to meet another HF'er and compare kit. Purple Palace tarp? Sounds exotic. It's fun to check out what others use and how. Best way to compare brands of equipment and set-ups is to actually get "touchy feely" rather than looking at advertisements.

My husband is in our pop up camper, but I have my turtle dog stand with me. I was thinking that if anybody wants to see the purple palace tarp or a tadpole tarp, I could do a show and tell. I also have my sawyer set up as a gravity filter and some alky stoves. I'll be set up at Morgan Creek county park in Cedar Rapids, IA today and Tuesday, leave Wed to go to State Center and set up in my stepdaughter's yard until next Monday.

I'll cruise around State Center Thurs. just after noon. A pop-up camper or purple tarp shouldn't be too hard to find.
