    Started my DIY

I started making my hammock, the lines maybe a little crooked, but hey im a rookie.
Got the plans and materials from DIY gear. I got the edges sewn up on one piece of it, hopefully next week ill be hanging in it.
    I plan to make:
    Hammock
    Woopies
    Tree Straps
    Snake skins
    Gear loft
    Stuff Sack
    Tarp

I think if forgot to but the snake skin material though, oh well......................one piece at a time.

Nice Job Danny! I started with the Whoopies because they were reasonably simple... and so on. Doing the more complex stuff as I progress...Good on ya!
Keep at it... Need pics! Until I get proficient, I will purchase from the vendors and then work more custom stuff as I go... want to start hanging soon!!!

    So I'm a little confused!
I have my gathered end hammock made, and the ends gathered and tied with draw cord.
Now I've made my loops with am steel and the triple fishersman knot.
Here's the issue, if I attach those to the hammock with a larks head how do I attach my ridge line to that?
Step 5 says attach loop with larks head, step 6 says toe a loop in the end of tech line and feed the amsteel loop through it.
Why? Why not just attach the tech line to the hammock no amsteel loop?

    Just finished my first woopie.

Used the packing tape method not the wire pull method.

Finished my 3rd diy hammock about a week ago. Got it down to 45 min to sew a hammock with adult beverage breaks. image.jpg
The bags and whoopies take additional hour or so.

here's an idea, when you do a larkshead onto the hammock whipped end, before you pull it tight, attach your ridge line to the crossing loop before you pull the other end tight......this would provide your ridge line with a place to attach.... like here; using a pinkish fuschia sheet knotted as a hammock; the tan line is the ridge line, and the camo loop is one made with triple fisherman's bend like the directions.... ridge line is connected with two and a half hitches for simplicity...

EDIT: other way you could go is simply tie a loop at the end of the ridge line and then put the larksheaded loop through and then put whoopie on the larksheaded loop, thus in effect pulling the ridge line...though other users probably can chime in better....

I like to attach the ridgeline with soft shackles. Then, if I need the shackles or ridgeline for something out in the field, I can get to them fairly quickly.

Well here my first hammock and it hanging!

Didn't get to nap much as my little boy wouldn't be still.
I have to say, I like it!
The woopie slings made sitting it up real easy.

So on my todo list now is snake skins for a tarp, some kind of hammock sack, a new tarp and rigeline with goodies.
My tech line I ordered for my rigeline disappeared...........my little boy probably has a stuffed animal tied up with it or its stuffed in his hiking pack.
