At the moment I weigh 175 and am 6'1, but that fluctates all the time. Last year i was 215. So, it depends how hard I am hitting the gym and eating

Double layer 1.7 od green ~31oz

A bit bigger than my taste, but bigger is sometimes better. I used to have, but lost , the same tarp in a 9x9. It was a truly great tarp to start with and I'm totally bummed at its absence. It is not sil (silicon impregnated nylon), so it's heavier than what many folks carry, but it will do the job and keep you dry!

Now for the finale... do you have any pictures of the grey bb? I can only seem to find the green ones online. One of the reviews posted on backpackgeartest was with a grey hammock (reviews by sophie) but you can not get a good look at it from the picture

cannibal, thats perfect. That does the job perfect.

I lied about not having more questions. What do you think that 12x12 would weigh? The website doesn't post a link. It wouldn't be more than 2lbs would it? Basically, I'm wondering whether i can justify spending more money on a silnylon tarp or for a smaller one (this seems to be one of the cheaper ones out there but as you said it is rather large and doesn't come with a sack to carry it in).

I got busted setting-up her hammock one day after work. I had just gotten it up (hammock) when she pulled up to the curb and asked "What the **** are you doing with my hammock?" She then proceeded to take her shoes off and climb in.

I've got me one good girl at home!

If you just need a tarp to play with or learn, then $30 is a good deal even if it is a little heavy. I don't know the exact weight, but someone will chime in eventually.

I would always advocate spending a little more and getting a quality sil tarp. Several vendors here make excellent tarps; OES, Warbonnet, Speer, JRB. I'm sure I'm leaving someone out (no offense), but for a few more dollars you can get something you'll be proud to set-up at camp, but not exhausted from carrying it all day.

Well, for under $90 the only one that springs to mind is the Speer 8x10 Cat Tarp. You can get one without the cat-cut edges for $50!

The Jacks sell a diamond shaped 8x8 for $90, but I don't have any firsthand experience with it. Several people here like it plenty!

Warbonnet was selling some hex tarps pretty cheap, but I don't know what his current prices are; might want to shoot him a PM (warbonnetguy). He doesn't have them up on the site yet (just the SuperFly), but I've seen, touched, and played with them and like them a lot.

Brian's tarps at OES are top-notch, but you aren't going to find anything that will give you good coverage for less than $100. His Standard size ones work for me ($95), but most beginners will want a little more margin for error.

I Have the Warbonnet Bigmambajamba and love it. Get panel pulls though, as it is huge! Might as well go for the complete set.
