    UL Bug Net SUCCESS!

    Finally!

    I can hardly believe it!

This was my third attempt at making a bug net of tulle.

    UL Bug Net SUCCESS! 002.jpg

It is a Fronkey style with open bottom and weighs an unbelievable 2.2 ounces. It's long enough for an 11' hammock. The hole in the bottom is adequate for getting in and out easily and reaching things outside.

That makes my DIY UL hammock, suspension, and SRL a total of 13.3 ounces!

Words cannot express how happy I might be with these results. Am now ready for my first UL trip in the beautiful Arkansas woods in May.

Congratulations! I made a similar one that was supposed to be a prototype, and it lasted at least 18 trips and would have made it longer if I had been more gentle with it.

Nice, congrats on the weight, that is incredible!

What width of fabric did you go with for the edges? Or full dimensions would be awesome.
I'll be tackling one with nanoseeum (we have hordes of midges here and I'm a clumsy oaf so no tulle for me :s lol) in the next couple weeks and a lot of fronkey nets I've seen have a lot of extra fabric underneath but yours looks great!

Wow, Mike, that's a great history, considering the price of the material.

I've decided that mesh is a Permethrin delivery system, eh?. Intend to soak the whole mess in it, suspension, hammock, and all. Have you noticed that ants like to crawl down suspension? ???

    Thanks, craige.

The tulle is 52" wide. I bought 6.333 yards of it or 19 feet.

I think that nanoseeum at 60-63 inches would be great! But I was looking at $1.38 per yard at Wal-Mart for the tulle vs. $8 for .70 ounce material from Zpacks.

I had already spent quite a bit on CF fabric (tarp and rain gear) and an experiment that failed.

Cut my ends at 45 degrees. 40 might be a little better.

Nice! Tulle certainly makes an "almost not there" bug net. It is also available at 108" wide if you want to save on the stitching.

Thanks, gmcttr. Yes, 108" would save a lot of time.

I have not seen this width on my local stores. Any ideas on where you get it?
