I've used floral wire, but I prefer a steel weaving needle: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Steel-Weav...1-Pkg/33085000

The weaving needle is about the same size as the Zing-It, so once you push it through, the Zing-It is easier to pull through.

There may be better videos out there, but I have found this guy to be the best at going through it for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtJGTgpv4dc. Again, I am sure there are other good tools to use for fids, and if anyone has used both and found their tool to be better, I am curious, but I have had great success with the skinny guitar strings. I do understand the dilemma because it is something that requires a bit of dexterity and I am not always the best. I could sit there for 5 - 10 minutes trying to thread a needle sometimes. But this system has really made splicing simple for me.
