Anyone willing to do some splice work?

While I've been able to do some continuous loops with Amsteel, I can't get the hang of Zing-it.

I'm looking at getting a new tarp and my friend that's buying my old one wants the ridgeline with it.

I'm looking for a Dutch hook on one end, a Dutch fly on a continuous loop for the other end, 2 loops with Dutch hooks & 2 plain hooks.

I have the Zing-it & Dutch parts already, just need someone with skills.

I'd be happy to help you out with that.

Send me a PM with the details of what you need.

Protip, use gardening wire or a sail makers needle as a wire fid.

I've got Selma fids (the BEST overall fids, I use for double braid), Brion Toss wands (the best for pre-measured pull through fids), and even a custom set of micro push-throughs, and gardening wire is still the easiest thing for me to splice Zing-It with. I've used a paperclip in a pinch to do some for a friend.

You can do it yourself!!!! Don't give up yet. Experiment until you find something that works for you. Much better than outsourcing the work.

I have found that higher gauge guitar strings work well for splicing

+1 on the gardening wire, I assume that's the same as the 24 gauge floral wire I use. You can get 100' of it for a couple bucks from your local home improvement store. Also, don't forget to cut your taper before you do your bury, makes life much easier.

I have made fids for small diameter cord from Walmart knitting needles. They sell some small diameter double end knitting needles in metric diameters. I have several sizes. A simple fid can be made by just cutting the knitting needle off with the end square. The biggest problem with these fids is taping the rope to them. Masking tape and scotch magic tape cause a lot of drag and it is difficult to feed the rope through. I have had the best results with clear packaging tape. It only takes a small amount of tape. I have made some long fids that will allow me to go all the way through the bury before the tail enters the core. I find it easier to feed the fid through this way. Small endless loops are not that easy to make. I've made several from 1/8" Dyneema, but never from Zing-It. The amount of cord required for a short endless loop is considerable. I made two 9" long endless loops yesterday and each required 21" of 1/8" cord. In addition to the two tails, you need to allow for the loss of length in the bury. I've made several whoopie slings from 2.2mm Zing-It. I use a fid length of 2", which is a bit long, but Zing-It seems a little slippery. I've made a number of 4" endless loops from braided mason's line and they work really well. A yarn needle works best for mason's line. I use 13" of mason's line for a 4" endless loop with a 2" bury on each end. All of my endless loops are locked. I don't know that the term "locked brummel" applies to an endless loop, but mine are adapted from locked brummel eye splices. I also splice larger diameter ropes, but use lock stitching on them, per the Samson Rope instructions.

Thanks to all of you for the advice! It's something that I don't have spare time to play with at the moment though.

Thanks but Red is going to do it for me. He's done some for me in the past but I didn't wanna bother him. Except he volunteered.

You splice for a man, and he has one new toy. You teach a man to splice, and he suddenly has new toys everywhere! And has to buy more rope...

I've tried and will continue to try as time permits. I've used pictures and I've used videos and I still have problems. I have to work on my tapers because I've snapped floral wire a few times while trying to splice
