First think of this knot as two knots on top of each other, a carrick bend, then the rest of it, which is one more wrap and out through the center.

    Start with this. Carrick Bend

Click on the "structure" tab so we are starting from the same place. Then, if I remember correctly
-Take the green working end and wrap counterclockwise over blue standing part, (under the left side of the knot), then up through the hole in the center.
-Take the blue working end and wrap counter clockwise over the green standing part, (under the right side of the knot), and up through the hole in the center.

It helps if you allow the standing parts to rotate "vertically" while performing these last steps. By vertically, I mean into the screen in the photo on the website. Leave yourself plenty of tail/working end at first. You always have to work the knot into position. It forms a symmetrical "basket" prior to working the knot tight.

The carrick bend is an "over-under-over-under" type knot. If you don't have that to start with, it will not turn out correct.

No, it's not on there. That was the first place I looked. The middle picture on the wikipedia reference is what I key on.

Ok. Thanks for the help. I think I just need to struggle with it now until I get it. I will post at some point (hopefully soon) with news of my success. Then I'll need to practice practice practice.

I can't believe I missed this thread. How about naming it the nacra carabiner? By the way, is anyone selling these yet?

WOW! This thread exploded since the other day! Great info guys. Thanks for the testing work! I'll be remaking mine with diamond knots. Did I mention these are super cool?

Thanks Drop. We must think the same way. I first tried to imitate what the hands in the videos were doing but didn't see the pattern, the reason for what was going on. That brief description and three photos hit the light switch for me.

It was a single. The Ashley and overhand were tied after splicing the ends together like nacra showed in his gallery. I am not sure you would get different results with the ends separate. Since the diamond knot works so well, I don't think I will do any more testing.
