Loop Shackles/Connectors aka The Nacrabiner

Narca, This is a great substitute for a carbiner or toggle.

I don't know how all of us missed it before.

I have been concerned about my toggles damaging the tarps or hammock material, This eliminates all of the concern.

I wil be making some of these soon

Thanks for bringing this back up again as I missed it the first time. I am trying to balance weight vs. convenience. You can deal with anything on a short hike, but on a thru-hike ease of use is a big deal. These strike a nice balance, at least for me. Another few ounces here and there and I'll be darn near my ground set up weight. Three cheers for Amsteel!

these are neet.i am going to tie mine a little differant.i am sticking with the diamond knot(for as long as i can remember it phew tough one but neat)instead of the little loop in the middle i am useing some 1.75mm continuous loops to make a sliding lock .

this is how i tie it
1.set shackle end in loop.hold end of loop and start twisting one side of loop around shackle.
2.keep doing this untill there is no loop left you may have to slide it around and twist it a little to get it to line up good.
3.for the last wind you may even have to pull the shackle through the loop.then pull the shackle tight and twist the'cinch wind ?' around untill it looks neet

you ccan also attach this directly to your tree huggers.so if you forget to relatch them when packing up they will not get lost

1.after step one from above slide hugger on shackle
2.pull loop past hugger and continue twisting loop untill tight
3.when tightened properly the cinch wind loop should pull into treehugger loop.

It's all loop shackles these days....and spetzer valves. Gotta keep up with this place or you will be left behind.

Made some loop shackles from 7/64" Amsteel Blue. Used 30" of line for two and 36" for the third.

It's a diamond knot stopper that had two tails but I pulled one into the other to make a single tail. Liked the look and thought it might make it easier to thread the stopper knot into the loop.

GREAT example/picture of the tip I posted in post #59 of this thread. Using a loose whipping to close the fixed eye.

The credit unions will have to start giving out water bottles soon instead of biners.

On my whoopies, I'm using the deadeye brummel to hang over the marlinspike. I have slept with the nagging feeling that during my last minute settling the deadeye loop has slipped over the marlinspike knot and onto the toggle. I'm going to incorporate this loop end into my deadeye to ensure that wont happen. When weight gets applied to the sling the loop will close over the webbing and cannot slip off of the knot....thoughts?

How are you guys keeping the eye from closing to the point where it doesn't open again (gets sucked into itself?), or is this even a problem?

It takes a lot of force to turn the rope inside out. I don't think it is an issue, just close them before putting them away. Even if you manage to turn it inside out, you can turn it right-side out again. I have done this a couple of times when splicing a locked brummel where I could not pass the other end through.
