Continuous loop in ENO sewn channel?

I just ordered a bunch of Amsteel and intend to tie two continuous loops and two whoopie slings to replace the SlapStrap Pro system with my ENO SingleNest.

My plan is to thread the amsteel through the sewn channel and then bury it into a continuous loops (so that it's permanently fixed into the channel without any knots), then hitch my whoopie slings onto the continuous sloop when hanging.

I know this will take a little more work and maneuvering initially but it should make for a nicer appearance and put less stress on the channel than just tying a larks head throughout the channel.

My question is: is there a reason not to do this or is it just not worth the extra effort?

The main reason that folks don't make the suspension permanently built into the hammock is that you may want to wash your hammock every so often. With a larks head you can remove the suspension fairly quickly and reattach after it's been washed and dried. There would not really be any change on the stress on the channel and it's made to be hung from. It would also make the minimum hang distance greater....aka if you attach the whoopies directly then your minimum distance from tree to tree is A but add on more line (in this case continuous loops) and your distance is A + the loops length. If you get into a tight spot and can only find trees that are fairly close together then you might have trouble setting up. Not something you run into a lot but....

That makes sense. I knew there had to be a reason people were avoiding it. The ENO comes with cord doubled through the channel and then tied into a loop so I was trying to clean that up but it sounds like just whoopie slings looped through the channel would be less of a hassle.

    Thanks for your input!

I use an 8" continuos loop through the channel with a whoopie hook on it. Then use that to attach to my whoopie slings. Works well for me, and I can remove it easily to wash. The hook gives me a water break. You can use the hook on the continuos loop or the sling. Your choice.

You are larksheading the loop instead of making it a permanent loop though, correct?

I've done exactly what Bec described, except my whoopie hooks are on the adjustable loop of the sling to keep it from pulling back on itself. I also have smaller loops - maybe 5 inches. No complaints so far.

I might have to order a couple whoopie hooks, do either of you have pictures of how your loop is run through the channel?

I am also redoing the Eno suspension with whoopie slings. So which is better, attach sling through sewn channel or install first a continuous loop, then attach? Does the latter just give more versatility?

Anyone know what Dream Hammock does offhand with their slings?

With my ENO I just larks headed the fix eye end of the whoopie sling to the gathered end of the ENO. Nothing in the channel. It has worked well for me and it is easy to remove when the hammock needs a wash. I know some people don't like having the whoopies always attached to the hammock because you have to pack them together and you might have water or dirt/sap on the whoopie slings. I figure I would end up losing parts it I made it all field detachable. The slings never seem to retain much water when packing up, anyway you mileage my vary.
