That MSH using a carabiner I have used that a bunch. Works great. And you get a good attachment point via the biner for whatever else you might want to attach there, hang you pack from, etc.

Here's the difficulty: the amount of tail you have on the tree strap depends on the size of the tree. So potentially you can't adjust the suspension where you want, or you have to re-tie it.
I'd seriously look into whoopie slings. They're cheap to buy, or cheap and easy to make. They let you set the MSH close to the tree, and adjust from the whoopie sling - much less fiddling. Splicing is easy once you get the hang of it, and it allows you to make what you need, to your own specs.
RKW, your idea works, use it.
One trick I do is leave the strap cinched to the toggle/biner. Then unclip the hammock, pack it away. Then pull the straps from the tree, leaving the biner or toggle in place. It wont get lost in your pack.
Once at the next hang location, there is no guessing where your toggle might be..it is always on the strap somewhere. Adjust toggle location for the new site and rehang.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
YMMV

Free advice worth what you paid for it. ;-)
Thanks folks. I've really been researching hammock suspensions and knots in general. I never thought the suspension part would be a fun aspect of hanging, but it has. I was a Sea Scout when I was a kid. Good memories.
