Hello everyone! I spent 8 years in the Marines, but don't have much solo backpacking experience. I'm planning a cross-country trip around the circumference of the US this summer on my bike. I've been practicing being out in the wild on my own (and with friends), and things are going well. Last summer I saw a dude hanging in a hammock in San Gorgonio on a rocky slope while I was clearing rocks and chiggers from my sloped, sandy camp site. Last week I bought a hammock and camped outside to test it all out! So far so good. This weekend I'm going out again to San Gorgonio to try it out, and leaving my tent behind! I went the hammock route because it seems so convenient and I believe it's a better option while I'm camping out around the US.
Is there a list of the top things a newly should know about hammock camping? I'm still exploring the site. Thanks everyone!
