    Panthertown Valley

Anyone on here backpacked in Panthertown Valley? I been looking at routes for the so called "Yosemite of The East", and can't decide how I want to loop this small wilderness section. I want to see cool waterfalls (there like 20 of them in there!) and some good panoramic views.

I have hiked there a few times but no loops or overnighters. School house falls Granny Burrell falls and others are pretty to see. You can get a map from slickrock expedtions. By the way there are 2 trailheads. Hope this helps...Robert

Thanks for that info. I didn't know there were only two trailheads.

I agree with blackbalsam6214 on the Slickrock Expedition map. It's called Burt Kornegay's A Guide's Guide to Panthertown. Don't go without one.

There is another good book out there, Todd Ransom's Waterfalls of Panthertown Valley. I recommend them both.

Here is the best trip report I have seen.

There are actually 3 trailheads to choose from and a lot of places to camp.
There are several nice sites where Powerline Trail meets the main Panthertown Valley Trail. It's pretty centrally located so you can set up a base camp there and explore.
If you park at the Cold Mountain entrance, it's only a 30 minute hike to the site.

Lots of great waterfalls in Transylvania County. My wife has seen a ton of them. The one recommendation I could make is to stop for BBQ at Hawg Wild at the intersection of 280 and 64 in Pisgah Forest/Brevard. It's about 20 minutes from my house and I drive by several other BBQ joints to get their Western pulled pork.
